The 15th Annual Bog Spiel was held on October 17-20. Everyone who came thought it
a great success. There was lots of praise for our facility, food, ice and especially for the
way our guests were treated by our volunteers. We reached the limit for 18 away
teams within 4 minutes of opening the event on July 28th which speaks to how highly
our club is regarded in the curling community.
We had 18 away teams from 13 different clubs plus 6 Cape Cod teams. There were 98
players, 70 of which have competed in at least one of the previous Bog Spiels and 7
that have 10 years or more. That leaves more than 1/4 of the players that participated
for the first time.
The A event winners were from Broomstones with Anne Fournier, Monica Walker,
Connor Hoge and Kim Jennett. The B event was won by our own Paul Sofuolis
skipping for the Boston Curling Club with Benj Guzman, Michael Sampson and Tina
Young. There were two Cape teams in the F event final with the team of Dan
Persechini, Joe Sain, Tiffany Persechini and Jen Sheldrick winning first place and
Jamie Quinn, Dan Smith, Jamie Constantino and Amy Bonaparte-Smith the finalists.
Grumpy Old Ice Men (their choice of name) Bill Gallagher, Brian Pijanowski, Artie Howe
and Phil Baybutt were the finalists in the E event.
All players were automatically entered in a raffle for a $100.00 gift certificate from the
Lobster Trap and the winning number was held by Meghan Lino.
On Saturday night we were entertained by Ellen Bailey’s group The Bog Fiddlers, aka
Tunes At Noon. Cynthia Dyer and Brad Caetano sat in as well on fiddle and Irish drum.
This event could not happen without the many volunteers who pitch in to help with the
food, bar, ice, hospitality, technology and many other areas. Because we are an all
volunteer club with so many members willing to step up and contribute their time we
were able to make a substantial contribution to our general fund. The final figures are
not in but in round numbers, we expect to make $8,500 from activities and with the
profit from the bar we should be at $10,000.
Thank you to the Bog Spiel Committee:

And now we start working on next year’s 16th Annual Bog Spiel.
