On Saturday, February 7th, the Bristol Yacht Club hosted an Olympics-themed social event that
brought members together to celebrate their enthusiasm for a variety of Olympic sports. The
evening featured club members sharing their passion for different events, with a special focus on
curling. Ruth Souto and Pat Crawford, who belong to both the Cape Cod Curling Club and
Bristol Yacht Club, played a key role by sharing their enthusiasm for curling with other
attendees.
Spotlight on Curling
Out of the six sporting events showcased during the
evening, curling stood out as the highlight. The display of
curling equipment—including a real curling stone, brooms,
and shoes—drew significant interest from members.
Attendees were fascinated by the opportunity to see
authentic curling gear, particularly the curling stone, even
though a sign requested, “Please don’t lift. Retired stone

curling poured in throughout the evening, as many were eager to learn more about the sport.
Interactive Floor Game and Club Engagement
The single-end floor game, though not a perfect replication
of curling, captured the interest of BYC members as well.
Participants returned repeatedly to play the game,
demonstrating their curiosity and enthusiasm by asking more
questions each time. The interactive nature of the game
made it a clear highlight of the night. Additionally,
excitement continued to build as guests visited the bar to
watch mixed-doubles curling on TV, often returning with
even more questions about the sport.
