Cape Cod Curling Club Juniors Advance To National Competition

Cape Cod Curling Club juniors traveled to North Carolina last weekend to participate in the Grand National Curling Club’s U18 championship event which took place at Triangle Curling Club in Durham.

The team consisted of Silas Gartner as skip, Nathan Gartner as vice skip, Ayden Silva as second and Will Thrasher as lead. All four boys are from East Falmouth and have curled with the club since they were little rockers.

The competition consisted of a double round-robin, with the team earning the most wins advancing to nationals.

With a record of four wins and two losses, team Cape Cod was tied with a team from the Broomstones Curling Club. Team Cape Cod came out on top and won the event, earning them their first trip to Nationals, based on their last shot draws — the cumulative average of draw-to-the button shots thrown by each member of the team.

The team will travel to the Rock Creek Curling Club in Lafayette, Colorado for the 2024 U18 National Championships in January of next year.

The curling club’s fund for junior curlers will help pay for the team's expenses. With the holiday season and a short turnaround time between the play down event, December 6 through 8 and the National event January 8 through 12, a Go Fund Me has been set up to help further defray costs including travel expenses of parents and the team’s coach.
