2025 Summerspiel

Another successful summerspiel is in the books. This years competition brought us teams from all over the United States and Canada.

The Festivities kicked off with the Dewees Mixed competition which brought us 36 teams competing for the coveted Dewees trophy. After 4 days of pool play and the famous lobster boil, Team "There Will Be Whales" from Potomac Curling club took hope the  top prize.

The fun continued with the ladies taking the ice. Thiis summer we hosted 24 teams with 4 hailing from The Cape Cod Curling Club. We ended up with late withdrawals from two teams unable to travel and had to find one permanent sub for one of the teams as well.  What  a bonspiel it was – with all corners of the US represented by teams from Maine, Charlotte, Sacramento, and Denver to name just a few.

There were closely contested matches to make things more exciting for all.  Three Cape teams ended in the finals of Events 1-3.  The most watched team of Sandy Stones (Gabriele Bruce,  Jeannie Yaroch,  Laurie Benton and Jamie Hutchinson) twice had Skip stones draw to the button to secure their victories on the way to the finals. The final of the 1st  event saw Sandy Stones facing the strong Coyotes team of Keeling, Thompson, Trageton and Stephens.  Sandy Stones was trailing by 4 at the last end and had some remarkable shots to put the pressure on the last stone for The Coyotes team who had the hammer. Sandy Stones came away with the win and have been dubbed The Comeback Kids! Perhaps folks were watching, but alas, the video stopped prior to the end, due to the length of an untimed final bye so apologies to all.

The Ladies Basket Raffle was an exciting bit of fun, with 24 baskets raising over $1400 for the Wheelchair  Fund.  A challenging Scavenger Hunt (thanks Mixed!)  had people acting strangely - like crawling on the floor -  and it just added to the fun.

Food and friendship abounded.  The Ladies feasted on a banquet provided by Chef Otto and his team from the Pocasset Golf Club.  It was a lovely end to four exciting days.  Our volunteers were amazing and we even got to watch the “wheelies” practice during the banquet. On to 2026!

Next up were the men.  This year we hosted 26 teams from Canada, Minnesota and Colorado to name a few! Cape Cod was represented by 3 teams.  The competition was tight and featured many elite curlers.

The final matchup featured world ranked #33 Chase Sinnett vs #37 Scott Dunnam vs. Us Junior National Champions  Shaheen Bassiri and Cape Cod’s own Nicolas Cenzalli who took home the title!

Thanks to the many volunteers who help to make this a wonderful event!
